Huckeby is the second member of sheriff’s office to retire in the fallout of the Eric Harris shooting. Tim Albin resigned from his position as undersheriff last month, and was quickly replaced by Rick Weigel.
Bass Reeves was born in Texas but later lived and died in Muskogee. He’s one of the most little-known heroes of the 19th century: an escaped slave who became a deputy marshal and arrested more than 3,000 felons, eventually retiring as a Muskogee Police Department officer in 1909.
The OSBI has not yet opened an investigation, but noted Thursday morning that they had received Kunzweiler’s request. The OSBI can only be requested by a law enforcement or investigatory agency.

But in court records and internal reports, others painted a far different picture: one where supervisors in the Tulsa Jail labeled black employees “N†in personnel files, Huckeby and others allegedly had “rampant sex†with co-workers and black inmates were assaulted for sport.
Meanwhile, supervisors at all levels in the Sheriff’s Office said they feared Huckeby — then a captain who appeared to enjoy the favor of Sheriff Stanley Glanz.
As predicted, the fallout for the sheriff’s office has been bad following Harris’ death and revelations that Bates had power and privileges based on his financial largesse, favors and friendship with Sheriff Stanley Glanz.

The group must now collect 5,000 signatures in 45 days supporting a grand jury investigation. Marq Lewis, We The People Oklahoma organizer, said earlier this week he hoped to collect 10,000 signatures.
