Educators were the toast of Oklahoma last spring following their successful walkout and rally at the State Capitol. But support for the cause seems to have petered out if Tuesday’s election results are any guide.

Advertising campaigns touting Stitt’s support among educators have been criticized as being misleading and the gubernatorial candidate’s high school chemistry teacher says he won’t vote for his former student.
“Earlier this year, the Oklahoma Legislature increased taxes on gross production by 150 percent,” the letter said.
“They helped me with my self esteem,” Kenny Belyeu said. “Nobody felt worse about me than I did. I didn’t feel I was worthy of having a good life. I was a lost soul.”
While both Continental Resources and Devon Energy supported a failed plan that included a 4 percent tax increase on oil and gas production, they balked at a later 5 percent increase.
“What we’re doing now is we’re really going to start to support candidates who support education platforms,” Cherry said. “This is not over. Even though we’re not at the Capitol, it’s not over.”
“I think she heard us. I think she listened to us, but I don’t think it was much more than that.”
